Memorial to honor McClune
The Syracuse University community will have a chance to gather and remember SU freshman Lockerbie Scholar Andrew McClune at a memorial service 3 p.m. Feb. 18 in Hendricks Chapel.
McClune died outside of Sadler Residence Hall on Dec.13.
McClune’s family will be in attendance at the memorial, said SU spokesman Kevin Morrow.
The service will include Remembrance Scholars and United States Air Force Reserve Officers Training Course students from SU, said Morrow. Rev. Thomas Wolfe, dean of Hendricks Chapel, will oversee the service and several speakers from the university community will share their thoughts about McClune, including Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw, Morrow said.
It is not known at this point whether the program will be turned over to students for them to share their memories of McClune, Wolfe said. Sometimes it is not logistically possible for students to share their thoughts in a open forum because attendance may be too high, he said.
The goal for the memorial is to help bring some closure to the community regardless of the continuing investigation, Wolfe said.
“We are doing this because someone we care about in our community lost his life,” Wolfe said. “It is time to grieve and celebrate his life.”
