Two unidentified men fired shots at Syracuse University senior Isaac Brody’s car, which contained Brody and three of his friends, at about 3 a.m. Friday on the corner of Cherry Street and Lexington Avenue.

Brody left the Mobil gas station on Erie Boulevard with three other SU students after buying cigars at about 3 a.m., said Brody, a hospitality management major.

A white sedan came up behind Brody’s car and the passenger of the sedan fired at the back of the car, according to a police report.

The occupants of the car did not hear the shot because the music was turned up loud and the windows were closed, the report stated.

The sedan then pulled alongside Brody’s car and the passenger of the car appeared to be holding a gun, the report added.

Brody stopped his car and the students in the car ducked, the report stated.

They heard something hit the car, but Brody thought it was a BB gun, the report added.

Brody returned to his home and did not look at his car until Saturday, when he noticed large bullet holes in his car and later called the police, the report stated.

Two of the shots hit the trunk area, one hit the driver’s side tail light, two hit the rear driver’s side door, and one hit the drivers side view mirror, the report added.

“Thank God my car has side impact beams,” Brody said. “It stopped one of those bullets.”

Officers recovered two of the bullets, one in the door and another fragment from the floor in the trunk, the report stated. Officers found four points where it appears bullets hit the car, but were unable to find any more physical evidence, the report added.

Sgt. Tom Connellan, Syracuse police spokesman, said the intersection of Cherry Street and Lexington Avenue is a high crime and high drug activity area within the city.

Brody said it was his usual route after going to the gas station on Erie, but now he is considering changing it if he goes late at night again.

“It’s sick cause it’s right down the street from school,” he said.
