Although the Student Association does not have any formal plans yet for this semester, the organization’s new leadership still has its eyes set on the ultimate goal of restructuring SA.

The final member of this leadership team was put into place Monday, when SA President Drew Lederman named Travis Mason his vice president. Mason, a junior, brings several ideas to his position, and hopes to implement them this semester. Two of these ideas center around improving communication between SA and the student body. The first of these goals is to establish a community-wide calendar, which can be accessed online to inform students of community events. The second is a type of SA newspaper that keeps students informed of happenings within the organization.

‘That’s one of my main goals,’ Mason said. ‘To make students more aware of what SA does.’

The goal of restructuring SA, first proposed by former SA President Andrew Thomson, however, is not lost with Mason. He hopes to change the role of the Organizational Voice Committee to a group responsible for registering student organizations. The group currently works to coordinate relations between student groups.

The OVC is not the only component of the association that leadership hopes to improve in the upcoming semester. SA Comptroller Maggie Misztal hopes to tie the finance board more closely to SA.

‘One really important thing we really want to do is for SA to be more unified throughout,’ she said.

A second aspect of this unification process is Misztal’s plan to solidify the liaison process.

These and other projects are still in the planning stages with nothing set in stone, Lederman said. Lederman has been busy at the onset of his term meeting with administrators and taking care of necessary preliminary business that could make these and other SA plans realities.

SA’s first project of the semester, the Student Involvement Fair, will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Schine Student Center.
