New DVD releases

‘Elf’Starring: Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob NewhartWhy it’s worthy:Really, anything involving Will Ferrell is hilarious. It doesn’t matter what he’s doing. So it follows that ‘Elf’ is a ridiculously entertaining film. Ferrell stars as Buddy, a giant elf who leaves the North Pole in search of family in New York City, all while wearing yellow tights.

‘The Chronicles of Riddick’Starring: Vin Diesel, Thandie Newton, Judi DenchWhy it’s worthy:Somehow this movie looks like an exact rip-off of ‘The Matrix,’ and it doesn’t exactly help that Diesel is an ass-poor actor. As the wanted criminal Riddick, Diesel finds himself up against an alien army that wants to convert or kill all humans. If you like sci-fi-save-the-world-in-a-ridiculous-fashion movies, check this one out.

‘The Office’Starring: Ricky Gervais, Martin Freeman, Lucy DavisWhy it’s worthy:You’re probably thinking ‘Office Space’ when you see the title of this British TV show, but ‘The Office’ is far more bitingly endearing. Gervais stars as David Brent, the painfully awkward boss who’s definitely exactly like someone you know in real life. Cringe – and watch.

‘The Hebrew Hammer’Starring: Adam Goldberg, Andy Dick, Judy GreerWhy it’s worthy:From the general plot of ‘The Hebrew Hammer,’ one would assume that the made-for-TV-movie is the most insulting thing ever. Seriously though, an Orthodox Jew goes on a mission to save Hanukkah when Santa’s evil son kills Santa and then tries to destroy the Jewish holiday. But hey, the writer-slash-director is Jewish, so it must be kosher.
