U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked a Syracuse University professor to join a panel that will look into the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

Catherine Bertini, a professor of practice in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, will be one of five people serving on the Accountability Review Board, which is investigating the murder of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi, according to a letter made available to the public by Foreign Policy magazine.

The board will be led by Ambassador Thomas Pickering. In addition to Bertini and Pickering, Adm. Michael Mullen, Hugh Turner and Richard Shinnick will serve on the board, according to the letter.

Bertini, a professor of public administration and international affairs, first came to Maxwell in 2005. She is also a member of the Board of International Food and Agricultural Development. She formally served as the executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme, according to her personal website.

Clinton sent the letter to Darrell Issa, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The letter indicated that the State Department will collaborate with Congress on this issue as best as possible so the two groups can find answers to questions regarding Stevens’ death, according to the letter.
