NCAA Investigations

Daryl Gross issues statement supporting SU’s disappointment with NCAA’s findings

Syracuse University Director of Athletics Daryl Gross issued the following statement Friday following the release of the NCAA’s sanctions for the university, which include a five-year probation, scholarship reductions, vacation of wins and a nine-game suspension for men’s basketball head coach Jim Boeheim:

“We have been open and cooperative with the NCAA throughout this lengthy process, taking responsibility for past violations, self-imposing a series of strong penalties and doing the right things to make sure violations don’t happen again. I share the University’s disappointment with aspects of today’s NCAA ruling and I support Chancellor Syverud and the University as it evaluates its right to appeal portions of the report and penalties.”

Gross is in his 10th year as Director of Athletics at SU. The violations relating to the NCAA’s investigation began in 2001 and continued through 2012. A call to Gross’s cell phone went unanswered.

Chancellor Kent Syverud sent a campus-wide email Friday saying the university does not agree with certain findings and that SU is considering an appeal.
