Tuition for full-time, undergraduate students at Syracuse University for the 2015-2016 academic year will be $41,974, a 3.5 percent increase from the previous year.

The increase marks the lowest percent increase in tuition in 49 years, according to an SU News release. The full 2015-2016 budget has not yet been released.

Although the percent increase in tuition has been steadily declining at SU, tuition itself has been sharply increasing. The 2015-2016 academic year has the highest tuition rate in the past 10 years, according to the SU Office of Budget and Planning.

The most money in SU history, $228 million, will be earmarked for university-funded financial aid, according to the release.

Room and board rates will also increase by 2.9 or 3 percent, according to the release.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, which does not include any student representatives, approved the tuition, room and board rates.

The 2015-2016 budget will also include a 7 percent increase in the stipend given to graduate assistants, a goal which the Graduate Student Organization and THE General Body heavily advocated for.

The budget will have “improved infrastructure for conducting research and an accelerated schedule for capital improvements to residence halls,” and “better governance of spending from the University’s endowment and reduces the amount of distributions that previously supported special projects and other expenses,” according to the release.
