Weekend Plans: Syracuse Gun Show, Wonderworks

Destiny USA provides a variety of entertainment options, including WonderWorks. Orange After Dark will be heading there this weekend.

Even as classes gain momentum and become more challenging this week, many students will still find that they have plenty of free time on their hands. Get outside, breathe some fresh air and get to know Syracuse a little better this weekend with some help from Pulp.

Gun Show

The Syracuse Gun Show is coming to the New York State Fairgrounds this weekend with a full slate of vendors. The New York State Arms Commission is putting on the event, which will feature 300 dealers and is the largest of its kind in New York State. Organizers say the event is for enthusiasts from all walks of life. Entry costs $6 for adults.

SU vs. Central Michigan

The Orange are in the Carrier Dome for the third week in a row this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. This time, they will take on Central Michigan in another nonconference game. If they win, it will be the first time the Orangemen have started off 3-0 since 1991. Although games have been in low attendance recently, this game will be one to watch.

World Indoor Lacrosse Championship

The WILC gets underway this weekend in the central New York area. Games will be played in the War Memorial Arena, Village Pavillion and Onondaga Arena, so there are ample opportunities to catch a match. Last year, Canada, the United States and the Iroquois rounded out the top three and are set to be the favorites again. Former and current SU lacrosse players are on the rosters for the U.S. and Iroquois teams.

Wonderworks

Orange After Dark is heading to Destiny USA this Friday night to check out WonderWorks. The attraction, one of Destiny USA’s major exhibits, features hands-on science projects, laser tag and a 4D theater. Tickets cost $3 at the Schine Box Office and buses will leave Schine Student Center and Goldstein Student Center at 10 p.m.

Festa Italiana

The city of Syracuse is hosting another cultural festival this weekend as fall begins to roll in. This time, the Italian community has organized Festa Italiana, which will take place on the corner of Montgomery Street and Washington Street. Music, a bocce tournament and — of course — food are slated to be the highlights of the event. The festival lasts three days, so there’s no reason to go celebrate your Italian heritage.
