The policy is in an effort to improve Carrier Dome security.
Syracuse University announced a new plan Thursday morning to increase public safety at the Carrier Dome. Starting this football season, SU will be implementing a clear-bag policy and walkthrough metal detectors at the stadium.
“Safety is our number one concern for anything we do,” said Pete Sala, SU vice president and chief facilities officer.

A spokesperson for SU Athletics said SU season ticket owners will receive the bags prior SU football’s season home opener against Wagner on Sept. 8 following a “soft rollout period.” The remainder of the bags will be sold for $3 at various SU campus locations — the Shaw Quadrangle, the SU bookstore and various Carrier Dome merchandise stores. All of the 35,000 bags will be distributed by Oct. 6.
