Syracuse softball was scheduled to face Army on Sunday in its final game of the Columbus Classic, but the matchup was canceled due to field and weather conditions, SU announced Sunday morning.
The Orange have opened their season at a program-best 9-0 through two tournaments. Syracuse began its season with a 3-1 win over Le Moyne before defeating the University of North Carolina Wilmington twice, Queens (North Carolina) and the Dolphins again in the UNCW Tournament.
This weekend, Syracuse’s offense propelled it to a 4-0 record in the Columbus Classic, outscoring opponents 33-4. On Friday, SU earned its first run-rule win of the year, defeating Long Island 10-1 in five innings. The Orange scored seven runs in the opening two innings.
A 3-0 victory over Tennessee Tech, in which Madison Knight tossed her second complete game in as many starts, followed two hours later. The ace notched seven strikeouts while allowing just three hits, improving her record to 3-0.
Saturday, again, the Orange easily handled their opponents, starting with a 12-1 win over the Golden Eagles; SU collected its most hits in a game this season (14). Syracuse’s offense tallied another 14 hits versus the Sharks to close the day with an 8-2 win.
With the finale canceled, SU now has another day to prepare for the Georgia Classic, beginning on Feb. 21, when it will face Appalachian State.
