Here are three takeaways from Monday night’s Student Association meeting at Maxwell Auditorium.

1. Election bills passed

The assembly passed the Election and Campaign Reformation bill, which sets guidelines for write-in candidates. The most important aspect of the bill, Parliamentarian James Franco said, is that it will prevent write-in candidates from having individual polling stations.

2. Name change discussed

External public relations chair Jack McCormack said that SA is considering proposing a name change for the organization so that the name will include the word “government.” But SA wouldn’t be able to vote on that proposal until April, so McCormack said another option would be to simply add a tagline, which he said would be something along the lines of “your student government.” In February, SA voted to change the organization’s name to “Student Government Association,” but then-President Boris Gresely called for a reconsideration. SA then revoted and rejected the name change.

3. DPS Safety Committee

President Aysha Seedat and Vice President Jane Hong met with Department of Public Safety Chief Bobby Maldonado last week, Seedat said, to discuss reinstating the DPS Safety Committee, a former SA committee. Seedat said they discussed how the committee would be structured, and added that Maldonado said he wants to be involved in the committee.
